The BIM Control Groups

This series follows three control groups of large and influential organisations in New Zealand's built environment, allowing developments in BIM's introduction to be monitored.

Industry control group

The industry control group is a sample of 46 businesses or individuals who have been identified as key users of BIM technology within the building and construction industry. These businesses participated in the initial survey on BIM use in 2014, and the same businesses are re-approached each year. This allows us to compare the 2014 data with the latest results to see how BIM use and acceptance has changed among this core group in the last 12 months. These findings will illustrate the value of BIM to others within the industry.

Client control group

In 2016, an additional survey was initiated to focus on clients' use and understanding of BIM, in order to better understand what progress BIM is having in facilities and asset management. The client control group is a sample of 44 property/asset managers of organisations with medium to large portfolios of property or other constructed assets

Subcontractor control group

In 2019, an additional survey was initiated to identify subcontractor use and understanding of BIM in this sector. The subcontractor control group is a sample of 26 companies of medium to large scale.

Some organisations in all groups wish to remain anonymous and we have not listed their names.
