Wool Truss Ceiling Insulation
Description

Terra Lana truss roof blanket insulation is designed to maximise truss roof insulation effectiveness in a variety of installation options. Pre-cut blanket slabs are available to fit 900mm centre rafters and are supplied in 1.2m lengths.

Truss wool blankets can be used as a single layer or double layer to maximise R-value and to reduce thermal bridging in truss roofs.

Supplied as a single or double layer, or as a top-up layer, this truss roof insulation is designed not to slump, or lose loft, and is naturally safe to handle and healthy in the home. It manages moisture, which maintains thermal performance.

Terra Lana's Truss Roof Blanket insulation is manufactured from New Zealand wool along with thermal bonding technology using polyester to create a robust, structurally stable product that will never slump nor lose its loft over the lifetime of the building. It is BRANZ appraised, and comes with a 50 year warranty to meet the durability requirements of the New Zealand Building Code.

Key Features
  • Moisture control — Terra Lana insulation is hygroscopic (can absorb and release moisture vapour) so it can help to mitigate condensation risks and mould formation within buildings whilst still maintaining thermal performance.
  • Warmth — Wool has a complex natural cellular structure that provides superior warmth in all climates, as it buffers temperature changes. Like wearing wool clothing, it improves the comfort of homes and buildings, requiring less energy to heat or cool them than synthetic insulations
  • Acoustic — Wool has a natural crimp to its structure, which provides excellent acoustic properties. Testing provided by Marshall Day Labs has proven Terra Lana insulation reduces noise transfer through walls, floors, and ceilings of residential and commercial buildings.
  • 50 year warranty — the combination of New Zealand wool and thermal bonding technology using polyester creates a robust, structurally stable product that will never slump nor lose its loft over the lifetime of the building. Meets the durability requirements of the NZBC.
  • Local and recyclable — new wool is sourced from local Canterbury farms, and recycled wool from carpet manufacturers' pre-consumer waste. All Terra Lana offcuts can be returned and recycled in their low-carbon manufacturing plant.
  • Safe — Terra Lana is safe to touch and can be handled without protective clothing, and has negligible VOC emissions
  • Declare Red List Free — certified toxin free

Scope of Use

Terra Lana Wool Insulation has been appraised as a thermal insulation material for framed or part-framed walls, ceilings and roofs of domestic and commercial buildings.

Installation:

  • Installed after ceiling construction in new or retrofitted truss roof spaces
  • Single layer options:
    • Roll blanket installed as a single layer bridged over the top of rafters to reduce heat loss through rafters, or
    • Segment slabs are installed pre-cut to width between rafters to achieve R-value
  • Double layer system:
    • A second layer can be installed perpendicularly over the first layer and rafters to increase R-value and reduce heat loss through the rafters
    • This further enables full ceiling coverage out to the roof space edges
Limitations on Use
  • Must be installed in accordance with the Installation Guide and Terra Lana technical literature
  • When the product is required to be installed in two layers, ensure all end-joins are overlapped
  • Allow a 25mm gap between Terra Lana and the roof underlay
  • Must be stored under cover and in dry conditions, and in a way that avoids excessive compression
Statement of Building Code Compliance

In the opinion of BRANZ, Terra Lana Wool Insulation, if designed, used, installed and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of Appraisal 682, will meet or contribute to meeting the following provisions of the NZBC:

  • Clause B2 DURABILITY: Performance B2.3.1 (a) not less than 50 years and B2.3.1 (b) 15 years. Terra Lana Wool Insulation meets these requirements
  • Clause E3 INTERNAL MOISTURE: Performance E3.3.1. Terra Lana Wool Insulation contributes to meeting this requirement.
  • Clause F2 HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS: Performance F2.3.1. Terra Lana Wool Insulation meets this requirement.
  • Clause H1 ENERGY EFFICIENCY: Performance H1.3.1 (a) and H1.3.2 E. Terra Lana Wool Insulation contributes to meeting these requirements.
Other Performance Attributes
  • 50 year warranty — Terra Lana wool insulation comes with a 50 year warranty to meet the durability requirements of the New Zealand Building Code. The combination of New Zealand wool and thermal bonding technology using polyester creates a robust, structurally stable product that will never slump nor lose its loft over the lifetime of the building.
  • Recyclable — As part of Terra Lana's commitment to zero waste, Terra Lana insulation offcuts can be returned to the factory in Christchurch, and are recycled into more insulation.
  • Declare Red List Free — certified toxin free
