These are non-combustible. Their specific formulation differs from standard mineral fibre, and they must be used in a fire-rated system to comply.
USG Firecode panels incorporate a high clay content binder which dramatically improves their fire resistance compared to normal mineral fibre formulation. Additionally, USG Firecode acoustical ceiling panels have Early Fire Reaction properties to AS/NZS 3837 Group 1, ISO 5660 and ASTM E84.
To provide a full fire-rated system, USG Firecode ceilings panels must be used in USG DONN DXL Fire Rated Grid, as this is specifically engineered compared to standard grid. Systems up to 60/60/60 are achievable with various floor/ceiling or roof/ceiling designs. This gives an option unique in New Zealand by providing acoustic control combined with fire resistance, compared to traditional plasterboard ceilings.
USG Drywall Grid Suspension System
Using the USG Drywall Grid suspension system, a fire resistance rating of up to 60 minutes can be achieved using a single layer of 16 mm GIB Fyreline plasterboard. During a fire, the DGL main tee notch and engineered design of the patented high tensile QRC tab on the cross tees allow a controlled collapse from any thermal expansion.
This prevents the unpredictable twisting, bending and bowing extreme heat can produce on non-fire rated steel grid. This maintains the fire resistance integrity of the ceiling system by retaining the flat integrity of the ceiling plane avoiding injury, obstruction or decreased structure protection.
