Welcome to the March 2009 edition of ebossNOW
This month's retrofit feature profiles systems and products that meet the growing interest in residential and commercial retrofits and refurbishment. It demonstrates that even though there are fewer projects, quality solutions still help to complete projects quicker, with more flexibility and with less disruption to existing structures and environments. Examples include Häfele's new 360º Project Service, Climateline prefinished plasterboard, and ideal retrofit solutions from Heritage Carpets, Hotwire, and Nu-Wall. The regular ebossNOW bulletins feature releases from The Laminex Group, Peter Fell, DORMA, Pink Batts, Juralco and Farho.
Also deserving special mention this month is the Frost Anodising technology launched in April by APL, which is revolutionising the surface finish options for aluminium.
Thanks to all 532 of you who participated in last month's Confidence Survey. We will be releasing a summary of all the findings early in April. Congratulations to architectural designer Jason Howden, from Wellington. Jason, the Samsung Home Theatre System is on its way to you.
From April, ebossNOW will include a new monthly section on building industry opportunities. To kick things off this month, we have an exclusive offer to get your work published in an Australian design book as well as an invitation for CPD-accredited training. If you know of any other opportunities for architects and designers - be it to get more project work, market their services or benefit from other commercial opportunities - drop us a line, and we will publish it over the upcoming months.
Enjoy the issue. As always we welcome any feedback, and if you think ebossNOW would be of interest to a colleague or friend, please let them know.
Kind regards
Matthew Duder

New Peter Fell concrete sealers improve design option
True to their goal to provide designers with the most complete toolbox of design options, Peter Fell Ltd has announced two new products to complete the sealer range. The new PFL Epoxy Sealer provides extended durability to all internal surfaces. The new PFL Natural Sealer penetrates the surface of the concrete, sealing the surface while retaining the natural surface texture. It is easy to dilute sealers to make them cheaper, but the PeterFell System sealer range has the highest possible solids content, giving the thickest possible coating and longer durability. |

Resene repeats history
The Resene Heritage chart has undergone a sympathetic makeover. With a few new additions to broaden the colour options and a change in design to let colours be displayed in technical groupings, broadening the colour selection across the eras. Resene has simplified the range by removing some of the colour duplications that were created in the 1990s. The Resene Heritage colour chart is available online or from Resene ColorShops. Colours are available in drawdowns, testpots, self-adhesives and AutoCAD colour books and ArchiCAD materials.
CAD files
are also available online. |

An extensive range from Smeg
Smeg offers a variety of rangehoods. From
powerpacks that are built into the cabinetry, to wall mounted and island canopy hoods and chimney hoods.
Made from the highest quality materials, not only are the Smeg rangehoods elegant, but they have a high performance extraction rate. Many models like the KSEV910X1 have timers that turn off the rangehood after 10 minutes and a service warning indicator that tells you when the filters need cleaning.
Most models can be recirculated, which is particularly useful in apartments where it is not possible to duct the unit outside.

APL's new anodising process
From the start of April, APL is launching a new anodising process that revolutionises the aesthetics of the traditional surface finish for aluminium. Called 'frost' anodising, the new treatment gives a glowing matte sheen that provides a uniform, non-reflective lustre, free of longitudinal grain. The frosted or pearlescent finish results from a bead-blasting pre-treatment stage.

Less is more with Resene
Resene non-volatile organic compound tinters have no VOCs at all. Resene non-VOC tinters are being progressively rolled out to Resene ColorShops and resellers, replacing the traditional Resene tinters used to tint decorative paints. Traditionally machine colourants have added VOCs to the paint, but with the new Resene non-VOC tinters, the same range of colours is available without the unwanted VOCs. |

Allaporta offers multi-choice solutions The Entracque (On Track) range of Italian stainless steel or Zamak (zinc, aluminium, magnesium and copper) track systems from
Allaporta
allows architects broad flexibility of design and materials, due to the multiple methods of installation. Stainless Steel gives a more industrial edgy look, while the brushed Nickel Satin of Zamak gives a softer but still contemporary finish.

GIB® for renovating interior walls A straight, even and smooth wall surface results in a better-quality finish. Removing and replacing wall linings will help if your customer is renovating. Hotwire under-tile heating retrofit Hotwire heating elements are custom-made to suit individual areas. A self-levelling screed is applied over the elements, wall to wall, to negate extra tiling costs, with an average added floor height of 3mm, centrally heating the home. Due to these systems being surface mounted and operated by digital programmable thermostats, they automatically respond to the homeowner's requirements.
|
 |
Heritage Carpet tiles ideal for commercial refurbishments Heritage Carpet tiles are ideally suited to refurbishment projects, as they can be individually lifted and laid in stages, causing minimal disruption.
Carpet tiles are more convenient to transport to site and into elevators or narrow stairs. They are easily stored on site and are quick to lay.
For specifiers and designers, carpet tiles make it far easier to calculate the floor quantities, and the versatility means design options are endless.

Glowing recommendation In tougher economic times, it makes good sense to consider new approaches to solve old issues in retrofits and refurbishments. When updating a building, architects and builders need to consider the look and safety of the existing stairs and consider the cost effectiveness of any solution. Ecoglo have launched a new step nosing range that can be used to meet F6 code, safety, aesthetics and budget requirements. With 10 years in the industry, Ecoglo has the expertise to help in any retrofit project, whether it be helping with the TA consent process for an emergency lighting system, or lighting up one dark step that is causing a trip hazard.
