interior & exterior ideas
Welcome to the April 2009 edition of ebossNOW

It demonstrates that even though there may be fewer projects, we are not short of quality solutions for all budgets.
We introduce Building Opportunities, a section dedicated to promoting opportunities & offers to the design community. To kick off, well known Architect Alan Blundell has put up a night's accommodation at his chic boutique hotel, Ohtel, and has offered mates rates to all eboss members next time you stay in Wellington.
Exciting features this month include the launch of the Isovalve plumbing system, APL's revolutionary new surface finish and
Kermac's
new range of contemporary partitioning. We also announce the Stevenson's Terrazzo business acquisition by Horizon International, Peter Fell's new specification toolkit and PSL's Quikspec system.
eboss Building Industry Confidence Survey
Again thanks to all who participated in March's Confidence Survey. Jason Howden from Archaus Architects, Wellington, was thrilled to be presented with the Samsung Home Entertainment System - after winning the prize draw.
"There is a real need for sites like eboss that provide us with concise & accurate supplier information at one central point".....
"Time saved from sifting through the ever expanding internet can be spent on projects.....
Jason Howden -
Last months winner of the Samsung Home Entertainment System
The summary report of this survey was released this week. There was a strong message reiterating what businesses and the government can do to speed up the turnaround:
98% say the situation will get worse over the next year before it gets better, but 90% are positive the industry will recover within 2 years,
Strong business, political and community leadership is needed to ensure we don't talk ourselves into a worse situation than we actually have.
Businesses need to stay confident and meet the market where it is now
Government needs to fast track planned projects - for schools, Housing NZ, hospitals; get the infrastructure package moving and ensure the $500 million infrastructure package announced is spread across small businesses, as this has a multiplier effect; simplify building consents (50.8%) and reform the Resource Management Act (44.2%) without delay.
And with regards to timing, the message was summed up nicely by Derek Baxter, CEO at Certified Builders...
"The reality is New Zealand has a housing shortage, low interest rates, positive net migration, and inexpensive materials because of the exchange rate, so it is actually the perfect time to be building in this country!"
You can view the full summary report on eboss , and as always we welcome your comments and feedback.

Goldair fixed heating solutions Panel heaters are ideal for residential or commercial use and provide a little extra background warmth in low-use areas such as hallways, utility rooms and foyers, or a safe, tamperproof and economical way to heat up children's bedrooms. With the rise in popularity of heat pumps, panel heaters have become the ideal heating compliment.
Air enters the heater from below, drawn-in by convection currents, passes over the heating elements and is silently distributed back into the room via the outlet grill.
Low disturbance of the air (dust, germs and pollens) makes it a good solution for allergy sufferers.
The Goldair Range of panel heaters feature either a fully programmable or manual control and are only 72mm, making them a slimline design choice

HPWF's Energy Management Film provides the solution. The UV reduction qualities of Energy management Film helps prevent these valuable exhibits from fading. Energy Management Film also protects carpets, furniture and fittings from fading and deteriorating. It is generally accepted that UV radiation is responsible for 40% of all fading.

A new generation of isolation valves Isovalves save time throughout the entire plumbing process. They are different to standard isolating valves because the outlet pipe (Isonipple) can be removed - enabling the Isovalve to be installed and used initially as a test plug.
This means the Isovalve is installed at the very beginning of the plumbing process, before any wall linings. Fixtures can subsequently be installed at any time without the need to turn the water off. Isovalves allow the controlled reduction of unnecessary high flows of water to fixtures (such as basins and sinks) meaning designers and plumbers can be proactive in water and energy conservation.
Sustainable food waste disposal InSinkErator food waste disposers are environmentally responsible as well as being convenient and hygienic.
Studies state that when food waste goes down the disposer it's doesn't end up in a landfill generating methane - a potent greenhouse gas, the waste will actually end up at a wastewater plant. Many modern wastewater plants capture the methane gas generated during processing and convert it to renewable energy in the form of heat and electricity. Research also states that food waste disposers use less than five dollars of electricity per year and about one percent annual household water consumption.

Laundry Storage Solutions from Juralco Juralco Wire Organiser Systems are manufactured from steel and have been pretested, then finished in a hard, durable powdercoat, available in white or satin nickel finish. The shelves are supported either by poles at the front or by bracing off the rear wall. In this photo we have used Freeslide™, Tightmesh™ and a four-Drawer Basket system.
Juralco's Freeslide™ innovation allows hangers to glide without a hitch. Tightmesh™ is specifically designed to prevent small items falling between the wires, the wire spacing is 12.4mm, tighter than the usual 25mm for shelves. GIB Aqualine® - protection from steam and moisture damage Wet areas like kitchens and laundries are continually subject to steam, moisture build up or water spills and splashes. The kitchen is one of the most frequently used rooms in the home. Cooking and dishwashing generate a lot of steam and airborne moisture. Over time this can cause damage to wall and ceiling linings. GIB Aqualine® provides extra protection in wet areas like kitchens and laundries. Its water resistant wax polymer core helps to stop moisture being absorbed by the lining and from passing through into the underlying framing where it can cause serious damage.
Tivoli Retracting Cabinetry System Allaporta's Italian patented retracting door system, Tivoli, addresses the issues with tight spaces in kitchens and laundries, or anywhere requiring more utilisable space. Due to the retracting panel mechanism, the system allows more cabinetry to be included into much tighter spaces than has been able to be achieved before. The folding doors open to a standard 45º angle, then a gentle push sends them retracting back into the cabinetry. By eliminating doors that impede movement in a room, the usable space in a kitchen, laundry or office is enhanced. To close, the user simply pulls the door out and into the closed position.
Steaming hot water tap InSinkErator, the inventors of the food waste disposers also offer a compact under-bench drinking water system, the unit is H 279mm x W 155mm x D 171mm and comes with a standard 3 pin plug. The tap can easily be installed beside or on a kitchen sink and delivers near boiling water at the touch of a lever. There are three models in the range to choose from, including a Hot & Cold filtered water dispenser option to suit homes or the office.
